Mr. Joseph Bernard Walker, 86, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Mr. Walker retired from Winston-Salem State University after 25 years of service, and served in WWII as a member of the famed Montford Point Marines; the nation's first Black Marine unit.
He was married for 58 years to Ethel Hayes Walker, who passed in February of this year. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Joseph Jr.
Mr. Walker is survived by 3 children, Wende Walker, Wesley Walker (Sondra) and Gerald Walker (Martaire).
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, September 11, 2010 at St. John CME Church, 350 NW Crawford Pl ace, Winston-Salem, NC with Rev. Edward Thomas officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the church.
