Joy filled the hearts of Selena and the late Joseph Nichols, Sr. on April 6, 1961when their son Joseph Nichols, Jr. was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. "Peace be Thine" were the words our Heavenly Father whispered on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 and Joe made his transition home to be with the Lord.
Joe was a graduate of East Forsyth High School. He continued his academic pursuits at North Carolina A&T State University and Winston-Salem State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
Early on Joe developed unique people skills which led to a career in sales and later as an Environmental Control Officer for the City of Winston-Salem.
At age twenty -nine, Joe was diagnosed with MS. Despite his health problems, he maintained a positive quality of life in the years ahead. He became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
His memories will be cherished by his wife, Wanda Nichols; his loving mother, Selena Nichols; one sister, Sylvia (Michael) Conrad; sisters-in-law, Paulette Mays, Sylvia (Derrick) Hinton, Brenda Sharpe, and Linda Draughn. Loving and precious memories will always remain in the hearts of his nieces and nephews including, Mychal and Meisha Conrad; aunts, an uncle, many cousins, other loving relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at First Baptist Church (East) with Reverend Darryl Aaron officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church followed by the family visitation from noon until 1:00 p.m.
Remembrances will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Capital Improvement Fund, 700 North Highland Avenue, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.
The family wants to extend its gratitude to Dr. Susan Auffinger, Dr. Edward Hill, Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Staff, and Forsyth Medical Center TIC Unit Staff.
