Joseph Learmond Hayes, born January 27, 1982 of 4130 Carnation Dr. Winston-Salem, NC went to his eternal rest on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the age of 25. Joseph was the son of Gail Hayes and Samuel Hynes Jr.
Joseph was know to his family as "PY (Porky)" and his friends as "Hamburger, Teddy, and Fat Boy." He attended George Washington Carver High School, Winston-Salem, NC. At the early age of eight he began playing baseball with Twin City Little League well into his teens, which led him to other sports. He played Pop Warner Football with the Tiny Rams and Tiny Vikings. He also played basketball with Winston Lake Family YMCA and Carl Russell Recreation Center. He experienced AAU Track and Field with Twin City Relays. While in high school he played on the JV football team. Joseph was employed at Deere-Hitachi, Kernersville, NC. He was a member of Friends United in Christ Church.
Joseph leaves to cherish his loving memories a son, Master Desmond Marquis Williford; a daughter, Miss Desirae Alene Carmichael; his parents, Gail Hayes and Samuel Hynes Jr.; maternal grandparents, Learmond and Alene Hayes; paternal grandparents, Samuel and Rosalee Hynes, all of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Tasha Hayes and Patrice "Deanna" Hayes of the home; and two half sisters, April Hynes of Oakland, Cal. and Jessica Hynes of Winston-Salem, NC; four aunts, Marsha Hayes, Gloria Hayes, Cathey Hailstock, and Sharon (Ronald) Campbell; two uncles, Learmond "Buddy" (Phyllis) Hayes Jr. and David Hynes of Winston-Salem, NC. He also leaves one nephew Xavier Hayes of the home; three special friends Tia Kennedy, Janelle Carmichael, and Princess Williford; two friends who were like sisters, Monica Funderburk of Winston-Salem, NC, and Crystal Newman of Washington, DC; his cousin Learmond "BJ" Hayes III was like a brother and several best friends that are also like brothers Ray Robinson, Jamal Shepard, LaShaun Peoples, Ron Gaddy, Al Porter and a goddaughter S'Quia White, a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Russell Funeral Home, Chapel, with the Reverend James Totten officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm Friday at the chapel.
