Deacon Joseph Henry Covington, Sr., 98, entered eternal rest on Tuesday morning, May 9, 2017.  He was born in Southern Pines, NC on March 14, 1919 to Robert, Sr. & Annie Curton Covington.

Deacon Covington attended the public schools of Southern Pines and moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1936.  He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy and was retired employee of both Taylor Bros. Tobacco Company and St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.

Deacon Covington joined Kimberly Park Holiness Church under the late Bishop SM Ceaser.  He was a devoted member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church where Elder Wardlow Frazier, Sr.  He loved the Lord, his family, & his church.  He was the oldest Deacon of his church.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wives, Sarah Ray Covington and Mary C. Covington; son, David Covington; daughters, Annie Boone and Mary C. Caison; and his brother, Robert Covington, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Joseph (Erma) Covington, Jr. of Rural Hall, NC, Archie (Helen) Covington of Arcadia, NC, and Terry (Sophia) Covington of the city; daughter, Barbara (Solomon) Green of the city; son-in-law, Jay Caison of Houston, TX; twenty-six grandchildren; fifty-four great-grandchildren; sixty-two great-great-grandchildren; niece, Margie Pitts; nephew, W. Herman (Betty) McDonald; grandchildren who served as caretakers, Michael James, Martin, Joseph, III, Audry Lane, and Sharel (David) Duncan; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, May 12, 2017 at Mt. Calvary Holiness Church with Elder Wardlow Frazier officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
