Mr. Joseph Barr, Sr., 66, of 4223 Oakridge Drive passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007. He was born on March 23, 1940, in Florence, S.C., the son of Jeffrey Barr and Sallie Barr. Joseph moved to Winston-Salem in 1959. He retired from the Kroger Co. after 38 years of dedicated service. He was owner and operator of Joe Barr and Sons Lawn Care. He was currently employed with Wal-Mart (Stanleyville). Joseph was a member of Galilee Baptist Missionary Church for 47 years. He was a dedicated tither and was a firm believer of taking care of God's house first, then his own. Joseph was an avid motorcycle rider and he loved fast cars. He was a member of the Carolina Cruisers Motorcycle Club. He looked forward to attending the annual Black Motorcycle Rally in Myrtle Beach, S.C., each year. He had attended the motorcycle rally for more than 40 years. Joe Barr was the king of "cool." Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey Barr; two brothers, Silas Barr and Solomon Barr; two sons, Jasper T. Barr and Joseph Barr Jr. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Barbara Coleman Barr; two daughters, Princella (Walt) Braxton and Penny (Charles) Simons; two sons, Stan (Kelly) Barr and Anthony (Kim) Barr; five grandsons, Joseph Barr III, Walt Braxton Jr. Wesley Braxton, Will Simons and Corey Simons; six granddaughters, Shana Barr, Chasidy Barr, Trinity Barr, Kourtney Jones, Kamryn Barr and Kyndall Barr; a great-granddaughter, Khaliya Barr; his mother, Sallie Barr; three brothers, Paul (Elaine) Barr, Jeffrey (Jessie) Barr and Nathaniel Barr; two sisters, Rena Morant (his twin sister) and Alberta (Eugene) Myers; his mother-in-law, Annie Coleman Carthron; seven sisters-in-law, Louise (Johnny) Garlington, Juanita (Jessie) Michael, Ruby (Wilbert) Barr, Pastor Sarah (George) Hauser, Pastor Essie C. McCullough, Geneva (William) Payne and Hattie Barr; six brothers-in-law, Aaron Coleman, David (Diane) Coleman, Michael (Sharon) Coleman, Bishop Daniel (Rose) Coleman, Toney (Voncellia) Coleman, Ben (Sylvia) Coleman; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 from New Direction Movement Cathedral Church, 3300 Overdale Road with Pastor Essie C. McCullough officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the church.(RUSSELL)
