Obituary

Jonathan Toliver, 44, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away on April 24, 2026.

Jonathan was born on January 31, 1982. He was one of the kindest souls anyone could ever meet— truly the sweetest person on earth. Known to many as “JT,” he had a natural way of connecting with people and could get along with just about anyone. He was well known and deeply loved, with a big heart and a bright smile that could light up any room. His goofy sense of humor and playful spirit made it easy for him to bring laughter and joy to those around him, even in life’s hardest moments.

He was the kind of person who lifted others up when they were down, always offering encouragement, support, and a listening ear. A protector and a provider by nature, he cared deeply for his family and friends and showed that love through his actions. He would give his last to someone in need or the shirt off his back without hesitation— his generosity knew no limits.

He had a deep love for R&B music and enjoyed sports, passions that brought him happiness and connected him with others.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Joel Michael Gamble-Toliver and D’marious Mykell Quarles; his mother, Thomasena J. Toliver-Hunter; his siblings, Reginald Tolliver, Charity Hunter, and Sherry Tolliver; and his beloved nephews, Syr Hunter, Reginald Tolliver Jr., and Timothy Moses; along with a host of extended family members and close friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

He is reunited in rest with his father, Ronnie Hunter, who preceded him in death on July 7, 2024.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the love he gave so freely. His presence made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by all.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, May 8, 2026 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Chapel.
