Jonas Berlenda Burns Tillman, known to all of her friends as "Sadie" was born February 6, 1941, to Robert Fulton Burns and Claudia Mae Tillman Burns in Anson County, Polkton, NC. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC.

Sadie was a graduate of West Ansonville High School class of '59. She was married to Rev. Herbert L. Tillman on January 17, 1960, and in November that same year, they moved to Winston-Salem, NC.

In 2006, Sadie retired from Basset Sack/ ILCO Unican Simplex after 30 years of service.

She was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and nursing board, alongside singing on the senior choir. Later, she transferred her membership to New Liberty Full Gospel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three sisters, Brenda Grace, Jeanette Burns, and Polly Mae Burns; and one brother, James "Fluckie" Burns.

Those left to cherish her memory include three sons of the city, Reginald (Elaine), Alfred "Doug" Sr. (Cheryl) and Jerry; one daughter, Patricia of the home; and son, Harold (Katherine) of O'Fallon, IL; special children to her heart, Monique Mashack, Kenneth and Lisa Hardeman; three brothers, Kermit "Billy" (Martha) Burns, Carl Mack (Sarah) Burns of Burnsville, NC and Casper Joe (Diana) Burns of Clinton Maryland; two sisters, Nannie Burns of Burnsville, NC and Peggy Sturdivant of Oakboro, NC; two great aunts, Mrs. Effie Mercer and Mrs. Ruth Davis of Washington, D.C; nine grandkids, (oldest to youngest), Carlos (Courtney) Grooms, Cheron (Carl) Rowdy, Tracee Spears, Latrice Smith, Alfred Tillman Jr., Chelsea Tillman, Alexis Tillman, Miles Tillman and Brandon Tillman; eleven great grandkids; six great-great grandkids; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, June 9, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, June 10, 2023 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
