Deacon Johnny Parms, Jr. was born to the late Mr. Johnny Parms, Sr. and the late Mrs. Ella Louise Hope Parms on April 15, 1936 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He attended school in Marlboro County. Deacon Parms retired from the Forsyth County School system to build his Lawn Care business.
Deacon Parms united with the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in July 1973. He served on The Deacon Board, was Superintendent of the Sunday School for many years, was a member of The Senior Missionary, and the leader of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. Mr. Parms loved his community, every Thanksgiving he would give out turkeys to as many people as he could. He was also a strong and faithful prayer warrior.
He was preceded in life by his parents; his wife, Mrs. Annie Ruth Parms; 3 brothers; and one sister. He leaves not to mourn but to cherish, 3 sons, Deacon James Parms, Deacon Johnny Parms, III (Elder La Wanda Parms) and Deacon William David Parms (Elder Angela Parms) all of the city; 5 daughters, Ms. Agnes Betts, Ms. Annette M. Parms, of the city, Mrs. Patrica Skinner (Ronnie Skinner) of Colfax NC, Mrs. Sabre P. Caldwell (Anthony Caldwell) and Mrs. Cynthia Gilchrist (Christopher Gilchrist) of the city; 3 sisters, Ms. Elizabeth Goode, Ms. Mary Ann Thomas, of High Point, NC and Ms. Chrissy Hamer of Cheraw, SC; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2great-great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, brothers and sisters in Christ, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Monday, January 13, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Daryl Young officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:30pm on Tuesday at the Church.
