Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound love, we celebrate the life of Johnnie P. Morrison, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather, grandfather, and friend. Johnnie departed this earthly life on June 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, generosity, and unforgettable memories.

If you knew Johnnie, then you knew he was truly a big kid at heart. A proud country boy through and through, Johnnie loved good food, good people, and good times. He never met a stranger and never let anyone leave his home hungry. Whether he was asking for blueberry pancakes, enjoying one of his wife Sharon's home-cooked meals, or sitting down to watch his beloved Minnesota Vikings, Johnnie found joy in life's simple blessings.

Johnnie was the kind of man who made his presence known. If he wasn't talking a little trash, cracking jokes, or making everyone around him laugh, then you probably weren't welcomed into his circle yet. His straightforward nature, warm heart, and larger-than-life personality made him impossible to forget.

For over 40 years, Johnnie dedicated his life to the trucking industry as a professional truck driver. He took pride in his work and the countless miles he traveled. He also attended Winston-Salem State University, carrying the values of hard work, determination, and perseverance throughout his life.

Above all, Johnnie loved his family. He cherished watching his daughter, Shakeyta Samuels play basketball, and his son, Johnnie Morrison Jr., playing baseball and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. He adored his children, treasured his grandchildren, and opened his heart and home to anyone in need. He was a tough yet gentle giant whose love could be felt by all who knew him.

His grandchildren were truly his pride and joy: Selea Gamble, Paisley Jordan, Johnnie Morrison III, and Jahmanie Morrison. They brought endless joy to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Sharon Sameuls- Morrison; his loving daughter, Shakeyta Samuels; his son, Johnnie Morrison Jr.; his sister, Ann Nicholson; his beloved niece, Shaneika Davis of Hamlet, North Carolina; his brother, Greg Morrison; his cherished grandchildren, Selea Gamble, Paisley Jordan, Johnnie Morrison III, and Jahmanie Morrison; and a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 12:30pm on Tuesday at the Chapel.
