Johnnie Mae Johnson, 89, was born on May 8, 1929 in Aspen, Georgia. She gained her beautiful wings on February 20, 2019 after an extensive stay in a caring and loving community at Trinity Glen Nursing Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
Johnnie Mae worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System for 20 plus years retiring and settling into focusing solely on taking care of her family and being surrounded by her loved ones. Before settling down and beginning her career in the school system, Johnnie Mae did lots of traveling, visiting places such as Mexico, Canada, Atlantic City, and even Jerusalem where she took many pictures as keepsakes. Along with traveling, Johnnie Mae enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Colombus Burke; and her daughter, Vickie Lee Johnson.
Left to honor this beautiful angel and carry on her family are her five children, Beverly Johnson, Crystal Johnson, Van Johnson, Kelvin Johnson, and her baby boy, Kevin Johnson; grandchildren, Katrina, Nicole, DeNorris, Chanel, Quartez, Tyrone, Mercedes, and Kariyana; a host of great-grandchildren; and other loving family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Betty Mae Lowe officiating. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family visitation will be held 10:30am until 11:00am on Saturday at the Chapel.
