John Hazel Spann, 57, of 2204 Machine Street, died on Saturday, December 19, 2009. He was born in Winston-Salem on February 28, 1952 to the late Willie Eugene and Dorothy Carter Spann. He was a graduate of Atkins High School Class of 1970 and a member of Phillips Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Bobby and Langston Spann; and one sister, Gloria Spann White. He is survived by his wife, Shelia Edwards Spann; one son, Jonell Spann; one step-daughter, Latedia Edwards; three devoted sisters, Maxine (Cary) Cain, Blondell Hardin, and Janice Smith; two aunts, Mildred Spann of Winston-Salem, NC and Susie Mae Spann of New York; seven nieces, Terrie (Donnie) Parker, Sharon (Austin) Hazel, Malia Cain, Tarsha Spann, Erica Smith, LaShanda Hardin, and Zenobia Mitchell; six nephews, Cary (Lori) Cain, Victor and Wesley Hardin; Cevin Cain, Tommy Spann, and Juma Smith; ten great-nieces; eight great-nephews; three great-great-nephews; one great-great-niece; and cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 at Phillips Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday at the Church. The family will be gathering at 1201 Peachtree Street Winston-Salem, NC.
