John Ervin Miller was born January 4, 1942 and passed on Thursday, September 21, 2023 in Oklahoma City, OK surrounded by his family. He was the fourth child born to Luther and Emma Leitzsey Miller who preceded him in death. John grew up in Forsyth County and attended the public schools. Shortly after graduating from Atkins High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. Upon his honorable discharge, he resided in Oklahoma City, OK. He was employed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma where he maintained high work standards and earned several awards. He retired from Tinker after thirty-five years.
John was very meticulous in everything. He loved repairing small engine machinery, reading, bowling, drag racing, football, and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pauline Miller Winphrie; brother, Herbert Miller; sisters-in-law, Brenda Gordon Miller and Betty Richardson Martin; brothers-in-law, Dolphus Parker, Alfred Richardson, and Johnnie Richardson; nephew, Kevin Parker; and his furry companion, dear to his heart, Ethan- a miniature schnauzer.
Survivors include his daughter and apple of his eye, Karol Miller of Dallas, TX; former wife, Barbara Richardson Miller of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Lilerwease (James) Cater; brothers, Thomas (Patricia) Miller and Luther (Deborah) Miller; aunt, Janie Senn; nephew, Dr. Herbert (Veronica) Miller, II; nieces, Genell (Rev. Dr. Melvin) Aikens, Kasandra Miller, Conita Miller, and Dorline Dervin; sisters-in-law, Catherine Richardson, Cora (Larry) Epps, Joyce (Kwame) Mumina, DeRutha Richardson, Tommy Taylor, Ramon Taylor, and Myrna Lowe Parke; and several cousins and friends. John will always be deeply missed by his loved one and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Second New Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Herbert Miller, II officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 12:30pm on Tuesday at the Church.
