As God looked down from His throne of Grace. He saw it was time to call one of His children home, to receive his reward. He chose John William McCarrell Jr., know to friends and family as Johnny. Mr. McCarrell was born May 17, 1947 to John W. McCarrell Sr. and Thelma Chapman McCarrell. He departed this life on May 7, 2007 at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro NC.

Mr. McCarrell was a graduate of Anderson High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was employed by Tyco Electronics. He was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active member with the church Security Ministry.

Mr. McCarrell was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry McCarrell; and a sister, Barbara McCarrell Rogers.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife, Sharon Young McCarrell, whom he loved dearly; two daughters, Jonetta Young of Washington, DC and Natalie (William, Jr.) Gordon of Winston-Salem, NC; one son, Jamel McCarrell of Greensboro, NC; four step-sons, Chrishawn Potter, Richard Young, Jawan Young, and Adrian Young; one sister, Veronica Mobley; mother-in-law, Martha Chapman, four grandchildren, a devoted god sister, Roslyn Malone, all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Homegoing services will be held at 1 pm Friday, May 11, 2007 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1400 Fitch St., with Pastor Donald L. Sally officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Russell Funeral Home, Inc.
