John Wesley "June" Collins, Jr. was born November 23,1928, the son of John W. Collins, Sr. and Inez Collins. He transitioned to his eternal rest on April 25, 2020.
He was a Gold Star member of First Baptist Church Highland Ave of Winston Salem, for over 80 years. He was a faithful member of the Sr. Usher Board and a Sunday School attendee. He graduated from Atkins High School and attended WSSU where he was a member of the Brown Alumni chapter, before enlisting in the Army. He served in the Korean War and received an honorary discharge.
After his enlistment, he met and married the love of his life, Roberta Greene. They were happily married for 59 years. To this union was born, the apple of his eye, daughter Pamela J. Collins. One of the greatest joys of his life was his only grandchild, Austin M. Collins, whom he loved beyond measure and called "My dog".
"June" was a member of the local Masons, a Veteran, and an active participant in his community. He had an infectious smile and love of life, that he shared with everyone he met.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Roberta Collins; daughter, Pamela Collins; grandson, Austin Collins; sister, Bobbie Jean Collins; sister-in-law, Thelma Dee Battle; 3 nieces; 2 great-nieces; 2 great-nephews; 5 God-daughters; 2 God-sons; and a host of cousins and friends.
There will be a viewing from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, May 1, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2020.
