Bishop John Willie Hopper, Sr. a deeply caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and so much more, was called to his heavenly resting place on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Born May 12, 1948, to the late John and Ellen Hopper, he attended Anderson High School, served in the United States Army, and studied at Piedmont Bible College. Bishop Hopper was a man with a vibrant smile and loved people. He was a man of many trades and talents and a comedian in his own right. He was a draftsman for Westinghouse Electric Company, a substitute teacher in the WS/FC school system, and later retired from Forsyth County.
Bishop Hopper was a devoted member of New Hope Holiness Church of God, Inc. in Lexington, NC. He loved his church family. Prior to his membership at New Hope, Bishop Hopper pastored Bethesda TVPH Church of God, Inc., Saints Delight TVPH Church of God, Inc., and Shammah Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church of God, Inc.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and dedicated wife of 50 years and caregiver, Lady Jo Anne Scales Hopper; a daughter, Elder Dr. Tiwana (Andre) Hopper-Gould; a son, John (Crystal) W. Hopper, Jr.; five grandchildren, Johnathan, Ryan and Joshua Gould, JeVaeh Hopper and Jaleel Farrar; three adopted grandsons, Jermaine, Derrick and Peyton Myers; a sister, Mother Delois Banner; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special cousin, Patricia Green.
Extended family includes adopted daughters, Apostle Dr. Elvira Caldwell-Carter, Erica Morris, Elder Linda Bussey and Mother Janet Jackson-Wilson; and an adopted granddaughter, (and laughing partner) Alyssa Cade.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm to 5:00pm Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Monday, January 24, 2022, at New Hope Holiness Church of God, Inc., 517 Tussey Street, Lexington, NC 27295. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC.
