Mr. John Robert Hairston, Sr., loving husband of Sharon W. Hairston, father, grandfather, and brother; went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday morning, October 7, 2007 at 7:50 am.

He was born October 4, 1941 to Benjamin J. Hairston and Mildred Gayden Hairston of Winston-Salem, NC.

Mr. Hairston was a member of Greater Damascus Baptist Church. He rejoined his family church, St. John CME Church of Winston-Salem, NC in 2004, where he served on the kitchen staff.

He retired from Larco Construction Company and also worked at Forsyth Academy.

Mr. Hairston was preceded in death by his parents; and his two sisters, Brenda Hairston and Jean H. Chandler.

His memory will be cherished by his wife, Sharon W. Hairston; seven children, Cedric Miller, John R. (Yolanda) Hairston of Atlanta, GA, Rodrick (Sherry) Hairston of Maryland, Benjamin (Angela) Hairston, Tanqula H. (Darryl) Graham, Steven D. Westbrook and Holli S. Hairston all of Winston-Salem, NC; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sisters and brothers, Anntoinette Fleming, Paulette Grier, Helen Brown, Pamela Hairston, Benjamin Hairston, and David Hairston of Winston-Salem, NC; loving father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Lucille Moore of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Annette (Willie) Cameron of Asheville, NC, Charles (Oillet) Shivers of California, Thomasina (Larry) Hughes and Ronald (Ann) Westbrook both of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whom he loved and cared for.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Thursday, October 11, 2007 from the St. John CME Church with Reverend Rita Jones officiating and Reverend Theodore R. Warren, Jr. eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.

The family will assemble and leave from 2515 Kilkare Avenue en route to St. John CME Church, 350 NW Crawford Place, Winston-Salem, NC.
