Obituary

On Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, Mr. John Daniel Feemster went home to be with his heavenly father peacefully, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a lengthy illness. Mr. Feemster was born August 26, 1914 in York County South Carolina to Josie Saunders and John McDaniel. He attended the WSFC Schools, graduating with honors from Columbia Heights High School. He joined New Bethel Baptist Church and was a lifelong member. He married Beatrice Robinson on November 12, 1935. To this union three children were born. Mr. Feemster was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy. He was a retiree of Reynolds Tobacco Company after 30 years of service. Mr. Feemster was very active in several community organizations. He was a longtime member of the NAACP serving on the membership committee. The Winston Salem Urban League Guild awarded his devotion and sacrifices by presenting him with the Family of the Year Award in April 1967. He was also a member of the Winston Lake Retired Men' s Club and The American Legion Post# 128. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice Robinson Feemster; a daughter Katherine Feemster Moore; a brother Andy McDaniel; mother and step-father Josie and Wade Cranford; father John McDaniel, and a sister Thelma Jackson. He leaves priceless memories to be cherished by his daughter, Dr. Janice F. Coleman of the city; son, Dr. John (Heidi) A. Feemster of Rochester, MI; son-in-law, John Moore; sister, Georgia McDaniel Allison of Clover, SC; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Homegoing Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from New Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Kendall Jones, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of John Daniel Feemster to Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Day Care Center or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
