Mr. John Franklin Evans, Sr., affectionately known as "John Frank", of 2830 Emerson Street, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was a native of Winston-Salem, NC, born on November 13, 1941, the son of the late Jennie Beal and Roy Orphus Evans. John was educated locally in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public School System. He was employed with several companies, Export and Piedmont Leaf Tobacco Companies, Texaco Service and retired after 31 years with Stratford Metal and Finishing Company. On any given day you could either find him on the fishing bank enjoying his favorite pastime or during the football season, watching his favorite team, the Washington Redskins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lillie Mae Powell; and a brother, Jamie Lee Evans, Sr. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are his wife of 29 years, Martha Casey Evans of the home; sons, Rodney (Jerri) Evans; Kenneth (Patricia) Casey, of Winston-Salem, John (April) Evans, Jr., of Maryland, and Verlin (Tami Stewart) Casey; daughters, Faye Mills and Annette Evans of Winston-Salem; a brother, Roy Louis (Easter) Evans of Ft. Washington, MD; a sister, Maxine Evans Ashby of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren; a devoted great-niece, Keonna Shore; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Cornelius officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday at the chapel.
