"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
In the early morning of Sunday, September 29, 2019, God called his good and faithful servant, Elder John Choate to his eternal resting place.
Elder John Choate was born on October 26, 1947 to the late Elder John Solomon and First Lady Maggie Choate in Sparta, North Carolina. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Regina Brown.
Elder John Choate worked for 37 years at RJ Reynolds until his health declined and forced him to retire in 2001. Even as his health was declining, he continued to serve the community. He was known as the "friendliest" man in Kernersville by waving at every person that passed by and giving a helping hand to whomever was in need.
Elder John Choate accepted Christ at an early age and began his path of serving God's children as Pastor with his first assignment at Mount Olive United Holy Church in Galax, Virginia for several years. God then ordered him to serve as Pastor of Clark's Temple United Holy Church in Mount Airy, North Carolina. He moved on to Pastor, Fellowship United Holy Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where led by the Holy Spirit, the church changed into Miracles of God's Temple United Holy Church in Kernersville, North Carolina where he was currently serving as Pastor. He also served as a member of the Board of Elders with the Western North Carolina District.
God, in His Divine Majesty, ordained the union of Elder John with the love of his life, First Lady Elect Linda Choate for 48 wonderful loving filled years. From this union, they were blessed with two beautiful sons, John Alexander "Alex" Choate (Stacey) and Christopher Choate (Lisette) all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Along with his wife of the home, he also leaves to cherish his memories: Six Grandchildren: Lexus Choate of Atlanta, Georgia, Chaya Choate of High Point, North Carolina, Bella Victoria Choate, Chase Alexander Choate, Aaliyah Choate and Ethan Choate all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; 1 Sister, First Lady Vanessa Jones (Bishop David) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; 2 Sisters-In-Law: Deborah Carlton (Donnell) of Huntersville, North Carolina and Charlene Martin (Al) of Kernersville, North Carolina; 4 Brothers-In-Law: Raymond Brown of Winston-Salem, NC, Louis David Martin (Wanda) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Tony Martin, and Everett Martin both of Martinsville, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
