Mr. John Clifton Gethers, 80, also known as Calhoun passed away at Forsyth Medical Center August 23, 2016.

John was born in Sumter, SC on June 8, 1936. He graduated from Atkins High School in Winston Salem, NC in 1954. He retired from R.J. Archer after thirty and a half years of service.
John enjoyed fishing, basketball, drag racing, classic cars, watching ESPN, sitting on the porch, barbecuing, and family cookouts at the Big House.
John was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Parker, Brother Ernest "Bobby" Gethers, Aunt Mary Waddell and Uncle George Gethers.

John is survived by his loving wife Jannie Gethers of 59 years. They were married in Winston Salem on June 16, 1957.
John is lovingly remembered by his four children, Jahureia (Mary) Gethers of Baltimore, MD, Jalaine Gethers and Johnetta Gethers of Winston Salem, and Jareena (Robert) Bethea of Rural Hall; six grandchildren, Morris (Trina) Lucas, Javon Gethers, Shakira Bethea, Jaylin (Gerard) Bingham, Brittany Bethea and Tyler Gethers; four great grandchildren, Mya Lucas, Zariah and Jasaun Chatman, and Genesis Bingham; sisters, Beverly Linville and Mary Katherine Parker; sisters-in-law, Claudette Gethers Boyd, Juanita Macmillian and Gloria Singletary; Godchildren, Oscar Vaughn, Walter Lee Penn, Stephanie Bishop Moody and Barbara Howard; including numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Chapel.
