Dr. John B. Brown Jr., son of the late Mr. John B. Brown, Sr. and Mrs. Naomi Burton Brown, was a resident of Kernersville, North Carolina. John was born in Mooresville, North Carolina on February 16, 1932. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Mary Ethel Moore Brown; and two sisters, Elizabeth Daniels, and Irma Matchett.
He was a gentle giant that stood tall in stature and walked in dignity because of the God he served. John attended Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona, and Bloomfield College, in Bloomfleld, New Jersey; he graduated from Federal Law Enforcement Academy, in Glynco, Georgia, and Custom Service Academy. He earned a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration, and earned his Master's and Doctorate Degrees in Criminal Justice Management.
John received the Albert Gallatin Award from the U.S. Treasury Department, and received the Outstanding and Dedicated Service to Driver Safety Program Award from the AARP of North Carolina. John was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, and retired from his position as Deputy Chief Inspector, U.S. Customs Service.
John was a life member of the New Jersey State Patrolmen's Benevolent Association (P.B.A), a life member of National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (N.O.B.L.E), and life member of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and held memberships with International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association (I.N.E.O.A), National Law Enforcement Officers Association, International Academy of Criminology, and Sentinel Society of U.S. Customs.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at St. James AME Church. The family visitation will be held from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be held at 11:00am Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
