Obituary

Mr. Joe Louis Mitchell

May 27,1965  – October 30, 2025

Joe Louis Mitchell was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Joe Mitchell and Gloria Goolsby. Joe, affectionately known as "Kong", graduated from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, where he was both a star offensive and defensive tackle for the Bulldogs football team. He went on to play for Texas A & M Aggies and later transferred to Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Joe proudly held three championship rings from Marshall's Thundering Herd. As an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, one of his most fond football memories was having had the opportunity to play in the Dallas stadium while he was in college.

Joe was proudly employed as a go-to trucker with both Roadway Express and Shepherd Motor Lines. He retired in 2019 after becoming his own truck owner/operator.

Beyond his career, Joe was a beloved pillar of the biker community. He started the N.C. chapter of The Black Tigers in 2012 and faithfully served as president for eight years. Kong shared a brotherly love for his biker friends Mitch, Ira, Skillz, Kool-Aid, Chris, and Dolo.

For decades, Kong showed his true love and passion for motorcycles. You could always find him working on one or taking a ride and then saying, "Another One!" Just over this past year, he and The Black Tigers and good friends journeyed to California and Canada.

Joe had been a member of Agape Faith Church in Clemmons, North Carolina since 2010. He served on the Usher Board and would faithfully hold food drives for the church Dream Center. He and Minister Adolph Johns had become very close over the last twenty years.

Known as "The Gentle Giant", Kong was loved and admired for how he demonstrated his genuine love for people. Like his grandfather, Willie Mitchell, he never met a stranger. Joe also deeply loved his family and poured himself into them. Sharon's and John's relationship with Joe mimicked that of close siblings. Whenever there was a need for a listening ear, support, or advice his family wouldn't hesitate to call on "Joe".

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, after a hard-fought battle, Joe took on his eternal wings. He will be significantly missed by family, friends, and multiple motorcycle club members.

He was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Evelyn Kiah; both brothers, Albert Bailey and Dwight Bailey; aunts, Bernice Hoover and Loretta Byrd of Ardmore, PA, and Jean Groce of Philadelphia, PA; and an uncle, Woodrow Mitchell of Philadelphia, PA.

A devoted husband and father, he leaves to cherish his precious memories, the love of his life and wife, Reinalda Mitchell of Winston-Salem, NC; sons, Joe Mitchell, Barry Noble (Teirra), Antonio Noble, and Francisco Noble; daughter, Charlese Noble; eleven grandchildren all of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers-in-law, Francisco Rodriguez, Michael Zayas (Lisa), Angel and Felix Rodriguez, all of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters-in-law, Evaleen Calderon and Elisa Sherman (Nick), both of Philadelphia, PA. Joe is survived by two sisters, Patricia Coleman of Winston-Salem, NC and Phyllis Bailey of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Benjamin Bailey (Karen) and Robert Bailey, both of Philadelphia, PA; one aunt, Margaret Mitchell of Columbus, OH; one uncle, Theodore Byrd of Ardmore, PA; first cousins, Sharon Harris Bryant, Frances Hoover McIntosh, Alexander Nathaniel Mitchell, John (Solo) Mitchell, Donna Mitchell, Karen Byrd, Howard Byrd, Michael Mitchell, Keya Byrd, Ernest Mitchell, and Sean Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

You could always count on him to be on time, honest and direct; always having practical words of wisdom to share. Joe's legacy of love, willingness to give to others, and deep faith will forever be in our hearts.

Sorrowfully Submitted, The Family
