Obituary

On Monday, July 14, 2021 God Called one of His devoted sons home to Glory, Joe Louis Campbell. He was born in McColl, SC and attended school in Scotland County School System in Laurinburg, NC. He later moved to Winston-Salem, NC until his death. He retired from the City of Winston-Salem and had a successful lawncare business. He was also a loyal employee of Russell Funeral Home. He was a distinguished dresser who loved WWE (Wrestling), NBA Basketball and his Westerns, especially Gunsmoke. He was a longstanding member of United Progressive Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Trustee, and on the Finance Committee. Joe was also an upstanding member of the Winston-Salem Community as a whole.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Campbell, Sr. and Loleader Wall Campbell; five brothers, William Campbell, Harry Campbell, Sr., Frank Campbell, Roy Campbell and John Campbell; ten sisters, Letha Mae Campbell, Annie Mae Campbell, Louise Campbell Martin, Rosa Campbell Easterling, Mary M. Campbell Hale, Esther Mae Campbell Stubbs, Rachel Campbell Norman, Ruth Campbell, Elizabeth Campbell McCrae and Berlene Campbell; and his goddaughter, Teresa Coleman.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Devlin Campbell; one devoted son, Deacon John L. (Sharon) Smith, aka Little Joe; one devoted stepson, Allen Keith Devlin; one loving daughter, Sandra Joyce Richardson; one brother, Dan (Lillian) Campbell, Jr.; one loving granddaughter, Shamyra Richardson; and a loving goddaughter, Yvonne Merritt. He also leaves to cherish precious memories, the Devlin Family who have been a big part of his life; mother and father-in-law, Retired Pastor Lewis and Mary Devlin, two loving sisters-in-law, Angela "Ann" Devlin and Carolyn "Mimi" Devlin Towner; one niece, Desi Devlin; one nephew, Idris Devlin; great-nephews, Darrien and Michael; great-niece, Nasifah; special friends, Chuck Ferguson and Elwood Ford; and a devoted family friend Tina Blackmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and a special group of guys, The Brothers at McDonalds and Food Lion Parking Lot "Tree of Knowledge."

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The service will be live streamed on the Russell Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 12:00noon.
