Mrs. JoAnn Robinson Cheeks, daughter of Marshall Werts and Mattie Robinson was born on June 16, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC. On Friday July 9, 2010, God's angels descended from heaven to call her home. Mrs. Cheeks was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McKinley Cheeks, Sr. and her parents. After twenty-three years of service, Mrs. Cheeks retired from Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong and dedicated member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served on the Nann Saunders Missionary Board, the Senior Choir, Mass Choir, and Kitchen Committee, until her health failed. She leaves to mourn a very loving and dedicated family, Alfreda (Brian) Wright, Sr., Charlene (Robert) Farris, Joseph Cheeks, Michael Cheeks, Debra Smith (Edward Cession), Norris (Valerie) Cheeks, Charles Jr. (Betty) Cheeks, Cherri Saunders, two sisters-in-law Shirley Gunless, Mary (Sherman) Hargrave, one brother-in-law J. B. Gunless, twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, a dedicated aunt Marie Robinson, a close cousin Shirley Flowers, a special friend Mr. Wright Watson, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, July 14,2010 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. John Mendez officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Wednesday at the Church.
