Mrs. Jessie Lee Jones was born on November 8, 1916 to Carrie & Jim Jones in Dixiana, SC. The young Carrie & Jim Jones soon moved to Winston-Salem, NC in dreams of a better day for their large family.  In her early years she was enrolled in the local public schools.  Later she was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired with more than 40 years.

Jessie's Christian walk began at Hanes Memorial CME Church.  She sincerely enjoyed working in the church and participated in fundraising activities, food preparation for church families in time of grief, and other church organizations.  Her favorite was the Hanes Creative Club.  Jessie also enjoyed many community affiliations and social clubs and enjoyed long lasting friendships that she nurtured and loved through the years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Harris; son, Dwight Cardwell; and grandson, Dwight Cardwell, Jr.

Family members who will forever embrace her spirit and remember her model include her daughter-in-law, Doris Cardwell; granddaughters, Cheryl (Leonard) Cole, Fredda Moore, and Traci (Mark) Phipps; grandson, Dwain (Genny) Cardwell; 10 great-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; 4 nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; devoted friends, Mary Watson and Arturo Ceasar; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Hanes Memorial CME Church with Rev. Clarence W. Cox, III officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Church.
