Jessie Kate Hall, 79, of Butler, Georgia, daughter of Jonah Hall and Carrie Mae Hall, was born on June 3, 1940. She peacefully transitioned on Friday, February 28, 2020 in Richmond, Virginia.
Jessie attended Atkins High School, Winston-Salem State University, Russell's Commercial College, received a certificate from Farakan's Barber College, all in Winston-Salem, NC, and took a correspondence course from the Institute of Children's Literature in West Redding, Connecticut. Jessie retired from the US Government (VA). She worked from 1972 to 1996 as a medical transcriptionist.
Jessie made us smile with her strong humor. She loved to draw and paint, as well as write. Jessie lived her life helping her daughters raise her legacies. She is the author of several unpublished manuscripts. "Chalk" was first published and is based on the life of her own mother. It gives the reader a sense of what it was like growing up as one of 25 siblings in the rural, segregated USA south. She has many of her oil paintings in different places from DC to NC. Jessie was also a very attentive, loving and caring mother, excellent wife and friend.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; former husbands, Fred Lovell and Willie McMoore; two brothers, Willie Joe Hall and Waymond Hall Hilton; and one sister, Ora Lee Holmes.
Jessie leaves to cherish most precious memories, her loving and devoted daughters, Sinetra Cook (James) Ussery of Charlotte, NC and Tammie Cook of Richmond, VA; one granddaughter, Thomasina Cook of Winston-Salem NC; three grandsons, Jasper (Shenika) Ussery, Justin (Latoya) Ussery of Charlotte, NC, and Temareo Cook of Winston-Salem, NC; eight great-grandsons and eight great-granddaughters; two brothers, Mr. Milton Hall (Jessie) and Mr. Wilbur Hall (Patricia), all of Winston-Salem, NC; four sisters, Eldora Parker of Maryland, Darlene Hawkins (Jackie), Wilma James, and Margaret Dixon all of Winston-Salem, NC; a former husband, Walter Cook; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
