Mr. Jesse "J.P." Scarborough, 83, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was a native of Winston-Salem and was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Willie Scarborough; and one brother, Ulysses Scarborough.
He was a graduate of Atkins High School and a member of Dellabrook Presbyterian Church where he was active with the Presbyterian Men and served as an ordained deacon and elder.
His community affiliations included the Slater Park Community Club, Rupert Bell Senior Citizens Club, and the Ionic Lodge # 72 P.H.A.
Mr. Scarborough was employed as an inspector at R.J. Reynolds for more than 36 years.
Rich with fond recollections and happy memories are his devoted family and wife, Margie Joyce Scarborough; four children, Claudette Gethers (Elmer) Boyd, and Michael and Reginald Scarborough all of Winston-Salem, and Brenda (Carl) Edge of Rocky Mount, NC; grandchildren, Frederick Gethers, Tamela (Willie) Guess, Reginald Scarborough, II., Marjorie Breazeale, Carla (Ron) Oldham, and Marcia Edge; an uncle, Mr. Robert McLendon; a sister-in-law, Cornelia (Frizzell) Forbes; a niece, Pia Forbes; five great-grandchildren; and many close friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm, Thursday, July 12, 2007 from the Dellabrook Presbyterian Church with Dr. Carlton A.G. Eversley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
