Reverend Jeffrey Lynn Howell , the second child born to Jean and William Howell was born on November 17, 1953 in Perth Amboy, NJ. He entered into eternal rest on May 3, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC.
Jeffrey spent the majority of his early childhood years in Carteret, NJ where he enjoyed a healthy academic, social, and athletic career. After graduating from Carteret High School, he attended Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, NC where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. Also, in April 1972, while attending Saint Augustine College, he pledged and became a proud member of the Falcon Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, acquiring the nickname of "Fellowman Bumpy Jones." In 2004, he received an Associates of Arts degree in Bible Studies from Somerset Bible College.
Reverend Howell's passion in life had always been in the development of our youth, both athletically and in the area of self-help, character building and motivation. He coached youth tennis, baseball, basketball and Pop Warner football over 3 decades and served in the capacity of Defensive Coordinator in Plainfield, NJ.
He was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church, Carteret, NJ. In 1997, he was ordained as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church, Woodbridge, NJ. While serving in this capacity, Jeffrey was called into the ministry, received his license to preach in 2004, and was ordained by the Middlesex Central Baptist Association in 2007. He served as an Associate Minister at New Hope Baptist Church, Metuchen, NJ, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Ronald L. Owens.
He served as a Youth Counselor with the MCEOC from 1975-1977 and worked at General Motors Corporation in Linden, NJ from 1976-2006.
Jeffrey met and married Barbara Mills in 1984 and to this union two sons were born, Ibraheem and Daquan Howell. In 2006, Barbara preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his father; and brother, Barry Stewart.
Jeffrey and Michele had known each other for several years, and on August 26, 2011, they were united in holy matrimony at New Zion Baptist Church, Elizabeth, NJ. In June 2019, they relocated to Clemmons, NC, where they joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC and he became an Associate Minister under the Pastorate of Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. and remained in this position until his death.
He leaves to cherish most dear and precious memories to his loving wife Michele; sons, Sharadh Robinson, Ibraheem and Daquan Howell, Shaun and Derek (Carolin) Young; his loving mother, Jean Howell; sister, Cheryl (Owen) Martin; brother, Mark (Sheila) Howell; uncles, Anthony Stewart, Freddie Howard (Valerie); nephews, J'Mar and Jason Williams, and William Howell; one niece, Mayanna Campbell-Fields; three grandchildren, Anjalina Young, Shaun Young, Jr. and Jayson Young; mother-in-law, Phyllis (Harry) Williams Sr.; brothers-in-law, Alonzo (Zelda) Wilcher, Jr, .Bruce (Kim) Wilcher; and a host of loving cousins and friends.
Reverend Howell was a kind, loving and caring Christian man and an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Dedicated to the task of saving souls, always willing to lend a hand, always saw the good in everyone -- he was indeed a blessing to all.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.
Private funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13, 2021. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
