Surrounded by many family members and loved ones, Jeanette Brooks Hyman went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 6:18am. She was the daughter of Jerry J. Brooks, Sr. and Evelyn Roberta Martin Brooks, both deceased.
In addition, she was preceded in death by her brother Charlie (1937); and sisters, Jerrylyn Smith (2005) and Jacquelyn Morris (2013).
She graduated in 1957 from Atkins High School, where she could always be found 'steppin high' as a member of the majorette squad and in the role of head majorette. She went on to attend North Carolina Central and Winston-Salem State Universities. During her career, she served as a legal secretary, assistant to her beloved friend and boss, Florence Creque, a dispatcher with the City of Winston-Salem Police Department, and a shipping clerk with McLean Trucking Company.
She has actively served as a member of Christ Kingdom Building Worship Center (CKBWC, formerly known as Spencer Memorial) for the past 7 years in various roles: member of the Culinary Committee, member of the senior dance group, "Wisdom", and chairperson of the Greeters Ministry. Lovingly referred to as "Sarge", it was nothing to see her helping out and 'running things', keeping everything running smoothly, no matter the event.
Jeanette leaves behind many family members and friends to cherish her memories her husband of 49 years, William "Fred" Hyman, I., daughter, Jerrylyn Hyman-Green (Boyce) of Davidson, NC; son, William "Billy" Hyman, II; spiritual-daughter, Dana Benton (Troy) both of W-S, NC; grandsons, Brandon Patton, Jonathan Green, and Solomon Benton; granddaughters, Whitney Hyman, Troi Benton, and Sydney Green; brother, Jerry J.
