Obituary

Jasper Austin, Jr. was born in Lee County, South Carolina on December 16, 1952 to the late Jasper and Dessie Austin. He entered eternal rest on Friday, September 3, 2021.

"Pony", as he was affectionately known, attended the Lee County Schools.  He joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 12 under the leadership of Rev Dr. T.O. Everett and sang on the choir. He graduated from Dennis High School in 1970. He retired from Flowers Bakery in October 2017.

"Pony" was loved by all his family and friends.  He would never let you leave home without a good meal, some good advice- according to the gospel of Pony, and a couple of dollars if you needed it. He loved to have company. He just wanted you to call before you came, to ensure that he would have you a good meal waiting on you. And he didn't want to hear that "you ain't hungry", you either were going to eat now or take it to go.

"Pony" was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper, Sr. and Dessie Austin; daughter, Mary Ann Manning; and his brother, Albert Lee Austin.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories his loving wife of 27 years, Mary Austin of Winston-Salem, NC; beloved sons, Carlton Lauarr Kimbrough and Thomas Jefferson McGill both of Winston-Salem, NC; beloved daughters, Tonya (Donald) Jenkins of South Carolina,  Sharon (Carlton) Booe of Mocksville, NC, and Kimberly (James) Lindsay of Winston-Salem, NC; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandbabies; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Friday, September 10, 2021.
