Ms. Janie Mae Smith was born February 21, 1954 and transitioned to Glory on June 2, 2024. She was educated in the Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County School System and attended Diggs Elementary School. Janie graduated from Central High School in Winston-Salem, NC. She spent many of her days employed by the Industries for the Blind.

Janie was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Smith, Sr.; and her father, Johnny Smith.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, her mother, Mary B. Smith; sisters, Minister Brenda Gray (James Kelly) and Hilda Smith- Strange (Oscar); special nieces, Chloe and Peaches; her nieces, Tangela Perry (Michael), Temple Davis (Anthony), Kelia Keeling (Dwayne), Valvetta Smith-Diaw, Henrietta "Peaches" Cain, Demetrius Smith, and Narisha Crowder; nephews, Michael Taylor, Jr., Cassius Taylor, Joshua Louallen, Ivan Smith, and Jeremiah Smith; seventeen great nieces; twenty-three great nephews; ten great-great nieces; eleven great-great nephews; one great-great-great niece; one great-great-great nephew; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and loving friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, June 10, 2024 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Chapel.
