Obituary

Janie May Nesbitt was born on February 22, 1924 in Spartanburg County, SC to the late Jamie Hayden and Lola May Nesbitt. She moved to Winston-Salem, NC with her family at an early age. She attended Atkins High School.
Janie joined Hanes Memorial CME Church and was active in many organizations including the Chancel Choir, Creative Club, and the Missionary Society. She was also active with the Skyland Seniors, the Poinsettia Club, and the Community Flower Club.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, James, Theron, Clarence "Jelly", and Leroy; one sister, Dosia; and grandson, Brian McGee.
Janie leaves to cherish her memory eleven children, John D. Nesbitt, Sr., Carolyn Nesbitt, Josie N. Clemons, Gwendolyn N. Kornegay (Judge), Mamie Loretta Nesbitt, Barbara N. Bonner, Kenneth Wayne Nesbitt (Monica), and Wilma B. Perry of Winston-Salem, NC, Linda Kaye Nesbitt with whom she resided, Harold Leon Nesbitt (Louise) of Fayetteville, NC, and Mary N. McGee of Durham, NC; a special God-daughter, Stella Henriquez of Hampton, VA; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored; two brothers, John D. Nesbitt of Colorado Springs, CO and Joseph Nesbitt, Sr. (Matilda) of Gulfport, MS; one sister-in-law, Maebrel Vance of Winston-Salem, NC; and many other relatives and close friends will miss mother, especially her caregiver, Brenda Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, January 10, 2011 at Hanes Memorial CME Church, 819 N. Highland Ave. with Reverend Clarence W. Cox, III. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Monday at the Church.
