Janie Coaxum-Jenkins, 82 died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center.
She was born to the late Sam and Rosa Coaxum on November 28, 1927 in Hartsville, SC. Janie graduated from Jericho High School in Cottageville, SC. She was the widower of the late Ernest L. Jenkins, Sr.
Janie was a founding member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and attended many years before her health failed. She retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.
She was preceded in passing by two sons, Ernest L. Jenkins, Jr. and Sanford Michael Crosby; one granddaughter, Sonia J. Alston; and three brothers, Kikah Coaxum, Thomas Gantt, and Frank Coaxum.
Janie was a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Dr. Thomas C. Coaxum and Anthony D. Jenkins; six daughters, Bertha Dixon of Miami, FL, Janie O'Neill, Ophelia J. McCloud, Priscilla J. Green (Walter), Patricia Jenkins Wallace, and Delores Crosby-Edwards all of Winston-Salem, NC; also to cherish loving memories are seventeen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Hattie Pinkney (John) of Hampton, VA; four brothers, Pellum Coaxum (Queen), Dolphus Coaxum both of Philadelphia, PA, Richard Singleton of Walterboro, SC, and Samuel Coaxum (Bonnie) of Stonewall, LA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 1pm Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 950 File Street Winston-Salem, NC 27101 with Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
