Mr. James C. Wingate passed away quietly and peacefully, just as he sojourned on Earth, on Monday, January 29, 2007 at his residence after a brief period of illness.
He was affectionately known as "UNCLE MACK" by all, including his extended family and closest friends.
Mr. Wingate was born January 20, 1915 in Darlington , SC to James and Ellen Wingate.
He was a veteran of WWII and spent his post war years working at Occidental Petroleum Corporation in New Jersey where he retired in 1980. In 1982, he relocated to Winston-Salem , NC to help with care for his loving mother and remained here until his death.
Mr. Wingate was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for 79 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; one sister, L.J.; and his grandson, Steven.
Those remaining to celebrate his life are his beloved daughter, Sandra Kay (Dwayne) Hughes; devoted nieces, Brenda Crosby Hill and Enid Tracy (Tony) Clark; extended family members, Henry (Thelma) Williams, Inkle James, The Clements: Bro. Calvin, Warrentta, Cossandra, Calvin II. (Kay), Caleb, D.J., Jahrri, and Camryn, Frances Wills, Cleon & Edwina Thompson, Robert Harvey, and Patricia Switzer Haney; a devoted friend, James Tart; as well as several other family members and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2007 at 12:30 pm from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bernard Adams officiating. His final place of rest will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
