Obituary

James Louis White, age 84, transitioned after an extended period of illness in the home of his daughter located in Raleigh, NC where he has resided the past 10 years.  He was the first-born child on June 22, 1937 in Winston-Salem, NC to James Young and Willie Mae White-Saunders.  James was fondly remembered by his nickname, "Butter Milk", which followed him throughout life.

During James early years, he survived by picking cotton and often visited New England and Buffalo, NY with his father.  He attended Atkins High School and was recognized as the man who danced with two women at one time.  He was a graduate of The Atkins Class of 1955.  His journey started with Winston Mutual Life Insurance Company where he became licensed to sale insurance, he built a rapport with others and was known as "The Insurance Man".  His passion to succeed prompted him to enlist in the United States Navy for four years working in aviation technology.

James was determined to embrace all life had for him.  During his course of life, he traveled to China.  He took business courses at Wake Forest University and Forsyth Technical Community College.  He spent thirteen years employed at the North Carolina School of Arts, working and gaining knowledge.  This experience was his initial start.  James accomplished his goal in the 1980's when he entered in entrepreneurship, founding his business and naming it "Triad Building Services."  He went on to enter bidding projects within the Triad Region, where he turned out to be a recognized businessman.

James fought a hard and long courageous battle within his body.  He now has won the war.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jamal White; his father, James Young; mother, Willie Mae White-Saunders; brother, Cary Cain; step-brother, Billie Sanders; his first wife, Gloria Spann-White; and his second wife, Winfred Kelly-White.

James is survived by his two daughters, Terrie White Parker (Donnie) and Traci White Johnson; three sons, James White, Jr., Kenny White, and Jamo White;  one sister, Loretta Young; many nieces and nephews; and a host of precious grandchildren and several loving great-grandchildren.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, private funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery.

The funeral services will be live streamed on the Russell Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 1:30pm Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
