James Albert Washington, 60 departed this life on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones, to go to a better place. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC to Albert Smith Rogers and Katherine VanEaton Rogers. He graduated from Carver Senior High School and was employed for 18 years at WFU/Baptist Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Alexis Cash.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Washington; sons, Rodney D. Hayes, Christopher Cunningham, and Derrick J. Washington; brothers, Charles VanEaton, Jackie (Peggy) Rogers, Simon Rogers, and Dannie (Imogene Bray) Rogers; one sister, Reverend Cornelius (Jerry) Joyce; grandchildren, Derrick D. Washington, Bryant Walker, Mattia and Malacia Lewis; an aunt, Annie (Willie) Richardson of Columbia, SC; an uncle, Robert Lee (Robena) Rogers of Philadelphia, PA; a great-aunt, Mildred Tucker; devoted cousins which were like brothers, Bernard (Christine) VanEaton and William (Waltina) Wharton; sisters-in-law, Sharon Robinson of Greensboro, NC and Aquanetta (Thomas) Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday, July 24, 2009 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until Noon on Friday at the funeral home.
