Mr. James Lee Stanton, son of Talmadge and Katie Townsend Stanton, was born November 6, 1933 in Marboro County, SC.
At an early age he joined Augsbury Methodist Church, SC. He later became a member of United Bibleway Worship Center, where he served on the Deacon Board. He joined the U.S. Army in 1955 where he served for two years. He worked for Modern Chevrolet for over 20 years. He then opened his own body shop, until his health declined.
On Tuesday, March 4, 2008 he departed this life at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Saveria, William, and Lee Stanton; two sisters, Annie Mae Carmichal and Sarah Rhodes; and a son-in-law, William Lennon.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Loretta Stanton of the home; two daughters, Thursal Love (John) and Sallie Lennon of Winston-Salem, NC; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; he helped raise Nanette and Walter Lennon of Uniondale, NY; a sister, Minnie Hairston of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother Talmadge Stanton, Jr. (Mary) of Charleston, SC; six sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Reverend Terrance Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 2:30 pm until 3 pm Sunday at the church.
