Obituary

Mr. James Edward Searcy, affectionately known as "Jim", peacefully completed this life's journey on Friday, September 7, 2018 at his home in Inglewood, CA following an extended illness.  After becoming ill in 2011, he was diligently cared for by his devoted and very loving wife, Annie "Millie" Searcy, until he quietly transitioned from this life.

Jim was born on May 18, 1943 to Howard and Magnolia Searcy.  Mr. Searcy was a native of Winston-Salem, NC during his early years and subsequently relocated his family to Inglewood, CA where he spent the majority of his life.  He attended Anderson High School located in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public school system.  He worked as a machine operator at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, NC before relocating his family to Inglewood, CA.  For forty years, he worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District in Los Angeles, CA, retiring in 2009.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Aldine Ingram.

Jim will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by his dedicated, loyal and loving wife, Annie "Millie" Searcy; three daughters, Victoria "Vickie" Bruton and Sondra (Thomas) Ward of Inglewood, CA, and Kathleen "Kathy" Garard of Sylmar, CA; Jim will be fondly remembered and treasured by his six grandchildren, Clarence Bruton of Riverside, CA, Jonathan Ernest of Garden Grove, CA, Michael Garard of Hawthorne, CA, Jessica Reese of Las Vegas, NV, Keith Roberson and Alexander Donald of Inglewood, CA; six great-grandchildren, Franchesca Bruton and Kya Kauakahi of Las Vegas, NV, Talan and Jurnee Bruton of Riverside, CA, Nala and Isaiah Ernest of Garden Grove, CA; two sisters, Doris Marshmon of Newark, NJ and Patty Peterson of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Friday, September 14, 2018 in Piedmont Memorial Gardens with Pastor Aldine Ingram, Jr. officiating.
