James "JJ" Scales was born December 13, 1935 in Winston-Salem, NC to L.C. Scales and Lois Scales. On December 27, 2017 at Forsyth Hospital, JJ left this life to be with his Father in Paradise.

JJ was preceded in death by his father L.C. Scales; and his wife, Shirley Scales.

JJ is survived by his mother Lois Scales Hilliard; his children, Mitzi (Robert) Howell, Gilda Smith, and Anthony Reid; brothers, Donald (Barbara), Leon (Arnetta) of Tacoma Park, MI, and Anthony (Ethel).

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Thursday, January 4, 2018 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Donald Jenkins officiating. The family visitation will be held at 11:30am until 12:00noon on Thursday at the Church. Interment will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 in Salisbury National Cemetery.
