James Pouncey McCoy transitioned from Earth to his Heavenly home on February 6, 2014 after an extended illness. He was born February 7, 1924 in Rock Hill, SC to Irene McCoy and Will Pouncey. He was educated in the public county school system in Winston-Salem, NC and continued his education in the United States Air Force. Sergeant James Pouncey McCoy served in the United States Air Force twenty-three years active duty and served eight years reserved duty. He was an honorably discharged veteran of multiple wars who served in defense of our Nation. Incursions include WWII Victory Medal, Korea, and Vietnam. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he began a second career with the Shreveport, LA newspaper as a circulation manager and later as a school crossing guard for several years with the Shreveport School System. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Grant, Juanita, Doretha, and Inez; and his daughter, Alfreda McCoy formerly of Jacksonville, FL. Surviving are his six children, Arlista (John) Holman, Angel (Peter) Down, JuVon (Toni) McCoy, and Selvester McCoy of Auburn, WA, Arva McCoy of Kent, WA;, and Jay McCoy of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, William (Althenia) Pouncey, Aldean (Barbara) Pouncey, and a special brother and sister-in-law, Roscoe (Clara) Pouncey all of W-S, NC; and a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Pastor Donald Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Church. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of W-S, NC for their professional and loving care during his illness.
