James H. Patterson, Jr., was born in Bastrop, Louisiana on September 3, 1933 to the union of James and Francis Patterson.

He departed this life on July 1, 2022.

He moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1948 and completed Atkins High School in 1951. He earned a scholarship to Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) and graduated in 1955. While a student at Lincoln University, James was initiated in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

James married Mildred (Lucas) Patterson in 1961 and they relocated to St. Louis, MO until his retirement in 1995. For over 35 plus years, James was employed by Washington University School of Medicine's Radiology department. James also earned a Master's degree from Webster University.

His professional accomplishments include Washington University's Meritorious Service Award (1985) and as the Employee of the Year. Also, Omega Psi Phi's chapter scholarship award in 2003, Founder's Award in 2004, and Community Service award in 2013.

James Patterson is survived by his wife, Mildred; sons, James H. Patterson, III (Myra) and Roger L. Patterson (Michelle); grandchildren, Solomon Patterson (Courtney) and Rahmaan Patterson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lindsay Patterson; as well as his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
