James R. Patterson was born July 15, 1933 in Gastonia, NC to Roberta and Richard Patterson. He received his elementary and secondary education in Gaston County, NC.

After 50 years of service, he retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company where he was a blending machine operator. He loved to watch basketball, football, and golf. He was a Dallas Cowboys Fan to his heart and a very fashionable dresser.

James died peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at his home here in Winston-Salem, NC after a short period of illness. He will be remembered as a dedicated brother, uncle and friend.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, Richard Patterson, Hurley Patterson, William Patterson, and Ruby Tate.

James is survived by his sister, Mary Davis; a very devoted niece and caregiver, Gloria Patterson-Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, July 12, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Sir Walter Mack, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow in the Fairview Family Cemetery, Walnut Cove, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Saturday at the Chapel.
