Mr. James Edward McRae Jr., 76, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2008. James was born on April 18, 1931 in Mecklenburg County, to the Rev. James E. McRae Sr. and Odessa Little. He was a resident of Wadesboro, NC.
He was a member of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, a past Ionic #72, and he worked as a concrete finisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Glenn McRae and daughter, Jocelyn Penn.
He leaves to cherish is memories eight daughters, Dorothy (Richard) Pettus, Lois Virginia Burks, Cheryl McRae, Lynetta McRae, Melba Masey all of Winston-Salem, NC, Phyllis McRae of Lexington, NC, Valerie McRae of Atlanta, GA, and Pamela Penn of Charlotte, NC; six sons, Vincent (Gericie) Wylie McRae, Byron (Sonya) Penn of Winston-Salem, NC, Gregory (Quenna) McRae of Greensboro, NC, Harold (Callie) Penn, Jr., of Indianapolis and Michael Penn of Richmond, VA; twenty-two grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Wallace; six brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dedicated friends.
The family wishes to thank the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Staff for the wonderful care they provided throughout his illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, March 5, 2008 at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Waymon Monroe officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1pm Saturday at the church.
