Mr. James Edward McIlwain Sr., aka "Mack" was called home on Sunday, January 3, 2010. Mr. McIlwain was born August 24, 1939 in Winston Salem, NC to Mary L. McIlwain and James Jackson.
James was a graduate of Atkins High School class of 1959 and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his father James Jackson.
He is survived by his mother, Mary L. McIlwain; three sons, James McIlwain Jr. (Rose), Darrell C. Hill Sr., and Kevin (Tawanna) Gates of Winston-Salem, NC; three daughters, Vickie Hairston of Winston-Salem, NC, LaShanda Foust (George) of Charlotte NC, and Rochelle Leak of Columbia, SC; five brothers, Columbus, Samuel, Roger, Willie (Mary), and Timothy McIlwain all of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters, Annette Martin, Peggy Carpenter (Lester), and Pamela Teeter (Ronald) all of Winston-Salem, NC; his devoted and loving fiancé, Jannie L. Little; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a very good friend, Walter "Jr." Mack.; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Phillips Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until Noon on Thursday at the Church.
