Mr. James John Martin, affectionately known to all as "Chew", formerly of 775 Carl Russell Ave. started this course of life January 22, 1913. He fought a good fight, won his race, and at the independent age of 94 finished his course on July 7, 2007; (7-7-07: completion)
He leaves to carry His legacy one daughter, the Rev. Gwendolyn Lynette Funderburk Holly (Farndrill); two granddaughters, Shawn Brandon (Harold) and Ne'keesha Dover; one great-granddaughter, Tatiana Brandon; many, many friends of 13th and 14th Streets, Patterson Ave, Bojangles Restaurant & Food Lion in East Winston, his Paper Man; his Holland Home family for 17 years, all the Brothers at Wades Service Station, all the Ladies in the house; Special friends Byrd, Sam and Bobby and the list goes on.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Union Baptist Church. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2pm on Saturday at the Church.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter at 5175 Shattalon Drive, Winston-Salem, NC.
