Obituary

James Allen Mack was born on May 11, 1935 in Winston-Salem, NC to Willie G. and Gertie Jacobs Mack and departed this life on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center.

"Mack", as he was affectionately known by family and friends, graduated from Atkins High School in 1953. He attended NCA&T State University before joining the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army, he was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He later decided to continue his education by enrolling in Winston-Salem State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Physical Education in 1972. Shortly thereafter, Mack became a member of James H. Young Memorial Lodge #670.

From his youth on he enjoyed playing many sports, including baseball, tennis, basketball, and golf. His favorite hobbies were playing pool, ping-pong and cards. After retiring from R.J. Reynolds in 1989, he served as a coach for the Bucks and Tigers baseball teams of the Walkertown Little League.

Mack joined New Bethel Baptist Church in 1986 under the pastorate of the late Dr. Jerry Drayton. He was a member of the Laymen's League, Bereavement Committee, Sunday school, Senior Ministry and he worked with the church tutorial program.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Jacob Mack; and four sisters, Thelma Jenkins, Willie Alma Hairston, Bernice Mack, and Lois Lovelace.

He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Dollye Kendall Mack; two sons, Jamall A. Mack (April) of Huntersville, NC and Commander Jiwan A. Mack, USN (Mya) of Brookline, MA; three grandchildren, Terrah Mack, Kaylah Pritchett, and Jiwan Mack, Jr.; sister, Gertie Mack of W-S, NC; mother-in-law, Mrs. Ruby S. Kendall of W-S, NC; brothers-in-law, Clarence Lovelace of Danville, VA, Gary Kendall (Betty) of Lexington, NC, James Kendall (Susan) of Marietta, GA, and Antonio Kendall (Cynthia) of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Sarah Mack of Philadelphia, PA; cousin, Jean Bradley of Shaker Heights, OH; nephews and nieces, Tyrone Lovelace (Kristy) of Seattle, WA, Gariel Kendall, Gerrod Kendall, and Bethany Kendall all of Lexington, NC, Katrina Kennedy (Ted) of W-S, NC, and Kenya Lovelace of Seattle, WA; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and very special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Kendall Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.
