Mr. James Calvin Lewis, affectionately known as "Pete", son of Otto Gill and Martha Lewis, entered this journey on July 6, 1943 in Winston-Salem, NC. On February 14, 2025 he took his last earthly breath.
He was a graduate of Atkins High School. He completed 25 years of service at BE Aerospace as a line technician before retiring.
He was a faithful member of Union Chapel Baptist Church where he served on the Laymen League. He sang on the Senior Choir, Mass Choir, and Men's Choir. He was also a Sunday School teacher for the Young People's Class and eventually began teaching the Intermediate Class.
James never met a stranger. He was loved by all and was always the life of the party.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
He leaves to cherish beautiful memories to his wife, Kay Lewis; his only brother, Dennis (Marilynne) Lewis; two sons, Calvin (Sylvia) Lewis and Carlos (Michelle) Lewis, Sr.; one daughter, Sharon (Michael) Scriven; four grandsons, Goryal (Nakia) Scales, Carlos (Alyah) Lewis, Jr., Antwain Scriven, and Jeremiah Lewis; two granddaughters, Courtney (Aaron) Collins and Delacey Murden; six great-grandchildren, Audyn Scales, Artist Scriven, Aaron Collins, Jr., Ahryan Collins, Princeton Murden, and Raven Murden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Union Chapel Baptist Church. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Church.
