James Morris King, Sr. was born on October 31, 1952 in Washington, DC to Mary Shepard King and James Andy King. He departed this life on April 21, 2020 after a lengthy illness.
James graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC in 1970. He met his first wife Constance in 1969 and they married in 1972. They shared three children and thirty-three years of marriage before she preceded him in death.
James joined the US Army in 1977 where he served 21 years and 8 months of service. He joined the army because he wanted a better life for his family. He joined the army because he wanted a better life for his family. He loved the Army and traveling overseas where he was able to meet new people; to know James was to love him and he never met a stranger. He excelled in the military; he was decorated with the Bronze star, meritorious service medal, Army commendation medal (6 th Award), Army achievement medal (4 th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct medal (4 th medal), Southwest Asia Service medal with 3 Bronze service stars (BSS), Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development ribbon with 3 numeral overseas service (4 th Award), and Kuwait Liberation medal. He also fought in Saudi Arabia.
James was the oldest of eight children, a job he took very seriously! He was affectionately known as Bonky to his family and close friends. He would go to war for anyone of them. He was loved and admired by his nieces and nephews. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they adored their Dae-Dae especially when he snuck them a sucker with or without their parents' permission.
James met and married his second wife Dale in 2006 and they shared 15 years of marriage before he preceded her in death. He leaves to cherish his loving memories and he will be missed by his children and stepchildren, Angela (Ricardo) Taylor, Robin (Thomas) Fryar, James., Jr (Crystal) King, Janice (Robert) Long, Shatanya McMillan, Arnold (Shontae) Williams, and Arthur Williams; his loving mother, Mary King; sisters, Min. Pat King, Pauline (Ron) Sadler, Joyce McWillis, Carolyn Hairston, Pastor Dorothy (Noel) Miller, and Wendy Kennedy; brothers, Kenneth Dunbar and Jerome King; mother-in-law, Marie Burton; brothers and sisters-in-law; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
