Deacon James Johnson Jr. "Jim" was born on March 11, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to the late James and Beatrice Johnson. He was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2013. Deacon Johnson, known to family as "Poppi, or Uncle Jr.", was a man who dedicated his life to church, family, and speaking the truth.
He was a faithful servant to several leaders in this community until he settled his servant hood under the leadership of Dr. & Co-Pastor Tejado Hanchell and the Mount Calvary Holy Church of America, Inc. organization. Deacon Johnson believed in following and supporting his leader. As long as he was well you would find him traveling wherever his pastor ministered and he was dressed impeccably.
James attended Ben Franklin High School and later joined the US Army in 1964. He served his country until 1967 when he received an honorable discharge. It was shortly after he met and married his wife and the love of his life, Diane Scott. He retired from Lowes' Hardware after 13 years as a department manager in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Beatrice; his niece, Beverly; and his nephew, Donald.
He leaves to celebrate his life and legacy his wife, Diane Johnson; 5 children, Perone Johnson, James Robinson, Latheresa Stukes (Terry), Dion Johnson, and Doreen Rivers (Mark); one Godson and daughter, Collie Johnson (Juanita) and Taneisha Gist; one sister, Minnie Anderson; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Mt. Calvary Holy Church. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
