James Patterson, Jr., affectionately known as "JP," was born to the late James Patterson, Sr., and Rebecca Collins Patterson on October 19, 1958, in Winston-Salem, NC. He entered eternal rest on April 6, 2025, at the age of 66. James was a graduate of West Forsyth High School, Class of 1977. Upon graduation, James enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Knox, KY, in the 530th CS Co. During his time in the Army, James received the "Expert Qualification Badge" for the Rifle M-16.

Upon returning to Winston-Salem after his active-duty service, James began working for various companies in the light industry sector for years. He was well known as a hard worker and a beacon of love and devotion to his family.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Patterson, Sr. and Rebecca Patterson; his uncle, Guy Harper; his aunt, Elsie Harper; and his wife, Teresa Patterson.

James leaves to cherish his memory his son, Kenneth Patterson of Winston-Salem; loving brothers, Cederick, Anthony, and Rev. SD "Wayne" (Tamica) Patterson all of Winston-Salem; seven cherished grandchildren, Kenyetta Patterson, Kenneth Patterson,  II, and Kedrick Patterson, Kiya Patterson, Kanyla Martin, Kayden Martin, and King Patterson; in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who loved him deeply.

James's strong personality, boundless generosity, and infectious laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. While we grieve his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he lived a life of purpose, family, and love.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, April 11, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. S.D. Patterson officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.  Interment will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday, April 15, 2025 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
